Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow – Dean Martin

Introduction

A Winter Romance - Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! (Original Remaster) - Compilation by Dean Martin | Spotify

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”—commonly known as “Let It Snow”—originated from the creative collaboration of lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne. The duo penned the song in July 1945 during a Hollywood heat wave, allowing their imagination to transport them to cooler conditions. Vaughn Monroe recorded the song that fall, released it shortly after Thanksgiving, and by Christmas, it had become a hit.

While the lyrics don’t explicitly reference any holiday, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” has gained universal recognition as a Christmas song. This widespread association is attributed to its winter theme, frequent play on radio stations during the Christmas and holiday season, and numerous covers by various artists featured on Christmas-themed albums. Interestingly, in the Southern Hemisphere, the song finds resonance during the winter months of June, July, and August. In New Zealand, some even play it in celebration of Matariki. This enduring classic, born out of a Hollywood heat wave, continues to evoke the festive spirit across the globe during the winter and holiday season.

In 1959, Dean Martin, the American singer, included a rendition of “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” in his album titled “A Winter Romance.” Later, in 1966, Martin re-recorded the song, incorporating it into “The Dean Martin Christmas Album.” Despite its earlier releases, the song gained renewed attention when it entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2018, attesting to the enduring popularity of Dean Martin’s interpretation of this timeless winter classic.

Lyrics

Oh, the weather outside is frightfulBut the fire is so delightfulAnd since we’ve no place to goLet it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
Man it doesn’t show signs of stoppingAnd I brought me some corn for poppingThe lights are turned way down lowLet it snow! Let it snow!
When we finally kiss goodnightHow I’ll hate going out in the stormBut if you’ll really hold me tightAll the way home I’ll be warm
And the fire is slowly dyingAnd, my dear, we’re still goodbyingBut as long as you’d love me soLet it snow! Let it snow and snow!
When we finally kiss goodnightHow I’ll hate going out in the stormBut if you really grab me tightAll the way home I’ll be warm
Oh, the fire is slowly dyingAnd, my dear, we’re still goodbyingBut as long as you’d love me soLet it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
